Phin brewing is more than a method—it is a defining element of Vietnam’s coffee culture. The recipe below has been meticulously refined to deliver a bold yet balanced cup, faithfully expressing the true Vietnamese coffee palate.
STANDARD PHIN BREWING RECIPE
Used 22g of ground coffee per serving
Step 1: Add the coffee to the phin filter, gently tapping to create an even coffee bed.
Step 2: Slowly pour 44g of hot water at 90–95°C to bloom the coffee, awakening its aroma (absorption ratio 1:2).
Step 3: Continue pouring 50g of hot water at 90–95°C, allowing the coffee to extract fully. Final yield: approximately 50g of brewed coffee (±3g).
Step 4: Enjoy black to experience the authentic character of Vietnamese coffee, or add 15–18g of sweetened condensed milk, stir well, add ice, and savor. Fresh milk may be used as an alternative, according to preference.
